Tip Action Fishing Rods

Are fast tip action rods only suitable for certain types of fishing, for example, lures or dries? Or is the action only relevant to the casting style and distance? I fish Buzzers almost exclusively with a maximum three fly cast and was wondering if this type of rod would be suitable?

Hywel Morgan replies: Tip-actioned fishing rods are designed to cast a long way due to the speed that you, the caster, can generate. While they are great for all types of fishing there are a few drawbacks to using this type of fishing rod. Firstly, covering fish at close range can be a bit of a problem because it’s harder to load the rod. Secondly, tip-actioned fishing rods are more powerful so you can suffer more breakages on the strike and even hook pull-outs when you are fighting fish. If you are looking for a rod to fish Buzzers then a middle to tip-actioned fishing rod will be ideal as it will enable you to cast a slightly wider loop so that the flies do not tangle up during casting. It will also cushion savage takes that might occur when fishing these types of flies.
